As Westas Group is dependent on forests, it is in the company’s best interest to ensure the wellbeing of Finland’s forest nature. The wellbeing of waterways close to sawmilling areas is monitored through a regular regime of measurements and the thermal energy required by the sawmilling process is generated using renewable fuels.

The by-product fractions created by sawing are used to the last fragment of sawdust. The bark is used for producing heat in the company’s own bioenergy plant, sawdust is sold as fuel to power plants and chips are delivered to pulp and paper mills.
